Laparoscopic Procedures

Laparoscopy is a minimally invasive surgical approach deployed to address a range of conditions in the abdomen or pelvic area, achieved without the need to make large incisions. This procedure is also called keyhole surgery.

To perform the surgery, the expert creates several incisions called ports, of about 1 cm. A laparoscope, a device consisting of a camera, is passed inside one of the ports. In the beginning, the abdomen is inflated with carbon dioxide which offers the surgeon a clear view of the organs in the abdomen. The laparoscope delivers high-resolution images from the abdominal to monitors in the OT. The surgeon views these images on the monitor to perform the procedure as he would in case of a traditional surgery, but by using smaller incisions.
