NURSING SUPERINTENDENT

Main Objective of the Role
Nursing Superintendent assumes authority and is responsible for planning organization and development of nursing services in the hospital. Allocates department resources in an efficient and economic manner to enable quality nursing care. Planning and implementation of nurse training. Enforce implementation of hospital policies and maintains discipline among nursing staff.

- Ensures updating of professional knowledge keeping pace with
- New trends and developments in nursing.
- Demonstrate skills and knowledge to be a resource and support for clinical management issues:
- Needs analysis for clinical requirements (material and personnel)
- Monitors clinical and resource management issues.
- Ensures appropriate nursing standards are set and attained.
- Local policy and procedure reviews
- Relevant, timely reporting.
- Participates in budgetary and human resources planning and Management.
- Workload management
- Is able to plan and evaluate patient workload distribution and management within the designated area.
- Performance Criteria
- Demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to achieving nursing and hospital goals.
- Take systematic, time effective approach to achieve work allocated and to avoid time wastage.
- Deadlines and appointment times to be consistently met.
- Planning and prioritizing of tasks undertaken in consultation with Medical head.
- Check the following:
- Over use and wastage of resources.
- Shift duty allocations and completions.
- Impress stock
- Cupboards, Shelves, Stores rooms, locker etc. for proper maintenance and tidiness.
- Random check on ward stock, stock register and drug account.
- Maintain patient and attendants physical, psychological and emotional comfort.
- Difficulties arising are to be rectified before it becomes a complaint.
- Tailors patient care plans and programs.
- Institutes performance appraisals of all staff under his/her supervision.
- Contributes substantially to the development; implementation and monitoring of staff / workload Information systems.
- Participates in technical and non-technical meetings, training and shares information with peers and subordinates for their benefit.
- Project Management
Develop the knowledge, experience and skills to undertake new nursing projects, expansions and systems implementations. Gauge quality of service for excellence in patient care with human touch.
- Professional Development
- Evaluates and advances the professional and performance development of self and staff.
- Welfare activities are monitored and taken care of.
- Is aware of NABH standards and ensure implementation of the same by her staff.
Major Job Qualifications / Specific Skills
Required Education: GNM/B.Sc (Nursing)
Experience: 17 - 20 Years
Knowledge and Specific Skills:
Manpower Budgeting/Attrition Control/Identify Critical Talent Pool/Competency Assessment-Nursing /Customer Satisfaction /Quality Care
Required Critical Behavioral Competencies:
Administrative Skills/Leadership Skills/Talent Development/Effective Communication/Problem Solving/Stake Holder Management/Business Acumen
